STABLE MANAGEMENT

Caring for horses is not just getting them and throwing them out to a huge field left to their own survival. Managing horses and stables can be a full time job and not one for the timid. One must be willing to take the responsibility on for each and every horse within the stable. When we take horses into domestication, we become their source for food, safe environments, fresh water, health care, social interactions ... in a nutshell, we take FULL responsibility for every detail of that life.

The pages contained in this section of HORSESource online are pages which are intended to educate the reader with the consideration of the horse FIRST and FOREMOST. The HORSE is the primary priority. Yes, we manage our barns and stables with our own comfort in mind, as well. But those human creature comforts are for our comfort most times, not necessarily for our horses. If horses had their way they would be outside 24 hrs. a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year with a shelter from the weather, plenty of food and water, acres upon acres to run and enjoy life. This is the life of a wild horse. However, it is mighty difficult to groom our horses for riding out in the middle of a rain storm. Therefore, we build barns and we bring our horses into a closed wooden box within a larger wooden box (the barn). With this in mind, read on. You'll find plenty of information concerning the health and well being of the horse as well as tips and articles on making life easier for the caretaker ... the horseman.
